Most
recent crop status report:
The severe cold
temperatures in the early part of April took out 75% of our crop
and therefore we will not open the farm for strawberry season
this year. We will take phone calls and set up times for you to
pick up berry orders. Strawberries are available on a limited
basis and must be ordered ahead of time. We will take berries to
the area farmer's markets that we attend, subject to
availability.

Dear Friends:
Once again it's strawberry
time here at Naber's. This is our
11th season. This year has again given us some weather events
that really haven't been all that welcome in terms of strawberry
production. Most notable has been the unusually warm March that
brought the plants out of dormancy early and which was followed
by that terrible cold snap in early April. This scenario
resulted in the loss of 75% of our crop.
Rest assured, next year we will have
strawberries, Lord willing. We are putting in new plants towards
the end of June for next year's production. These plants will
spend their productive life indoors since we will also be
putting up 2 unheated tunnels, (greenhouses), to protect the
plants from weather that is all too often unfriendly to
strawberry production.
As you recall we discontinued the
U-Pick portion of our business in 2005 and it worked very well
for us, so for that reason we will stick with that decision for
this year. At some point in the future we may again offer
the U-pick option, but for now we will proceed without it. We know
many of you will be disappointed by this decision, but due to
the very high cost of establishing a strawberry field we cannot
afford to have the crop go to waste. With a u-pick farm you have
to leave crop in the field so the customers have a place to
pick, but if the customers don' t show up in sufficient numbers
on any given day, then that portion of the crop that was ready
at that time will then go to waste. As always we intend to have
plenty of berries on hand for purchase at the farm and at the
farmers markets we attend.
We highly recommend that you call us
before coming out to the farm to ensure product availability and
for large orders this enables us to have your order ready when
you arrive.
Phone number is 402-728-5565. We
have a fine staff of professional strawberry pickers who are
happy to fill your orders.
Open by appointment only for 2007.
